“From São Paulo to Haifa: A Journey of Resilience and Renewal”

“My name is Hari and I am from the city of São Paulo. This is a bit about my Aliyah journey.

Since my youth, I have always been involved with our community through my grandparents and parents. My family came from very humble origins, and from the moment we arrived, I participated in the family business we had. I didn’t have the opportunity to attend higher education because I always focused on ensuring we had everything we need for every day, our daily bread. Over the years, I realized that time doesn’t go backward and that I needed to do something more meaningful.

Close friends who had moved to Israel encouraged me to do the same. However, I always found an excuse, believing that the move wouldn’t be on my favor at all, not worth the try. I nurtured the sweet illusion that our family’s activities would be enough for our livelihood, until the pandemic hit.

As a preventive measure, we moved to the countryside, away from the crowds, living in isolation. Unable to do business, our financial reserves ran out, leaving us with nothing of what we had saved over the years.

When we returned to the city we tried to restart our commercial activities in a new location. However, with higher costs and the loss of clientele, our livelihood was no longer enough. I sought employment, but with no professional qualification and only a high school diploma, I couldn’t find good opportunities, leading to low wages.

It was at this moment that I remembered the words of my friends about Israel and making Aliyah. They told me that there, it would be possible to work and earn a fairer salary, truly helping my family and even providing them with a life of rest, peace, and justice.

So, then I started my aliyah process in 2023, but with the conflict in the region, I had to pause it. Earlier this year, I resumed the process with the support of the Jewish Agency. However, financial difficulties made it almost impossible to handle all the expenses required for the documentation to Israel, in addition to supporting my family. It was very tough.

it was then that some friends referred me to Ezra Brasil. Thanks to the financial support I received, I was able to finalize my Aliyah process. Without this help, I would never have been able to fulfill the dream of starting a new life in Israel, which I also hope to expand to my parents as well.

Now, I am about to turn the page of my life in Brazil and begin a new chapter in Israel. I will be living in Haifa and carry with me gratitude for every person and institution that has been part of this story. Thank you so much to all who made this possible, Ezra Brazil and everyone who contributed so much to my Aliiyah journey.      Thank you!”
